Decriminalization of Marijuana within the Borough of State College

The Borough of State College last year adopted a new ordinance prohibiting the possession of a small amount of marijuana. This allows local police to charge persons in possession with an ordinance violation rather than a criminal misdemeanor.

The ordinance does not apply in surrounding communities wherein many student apartment complexes are located.

Unfortunately the large majority of incidents of marijuana possession occur on the Penn State Campus. These will continue to be charged as misdemeanor offenses as will charges in surrounding communities outside the Borough of State College.

The moral of this story is if you or your child has a propensity for smoking weed try to ensure that he does so within the Borough of State College!
